For a while I struggled with songs that folks classify as “neo soul” and kind of shied away from them because of this negative stigma people were putting on it. I watched this video and I was like “fuck that, black folks are fucking cool even when they’re not trying to be Kanye. Or from the 90s. Just because you make music for the Jersey Shore soundtrack doesn’t make you cooler than those who make slower tempo soulful music.”
